Step One: Fill out the Title and short description of your video. Choose whether your video will be public or private. Select that you agree to the Terms of Service then click next.

Step Two: Select the categories your video falls under. You may choose more than one category to help broaden the chances your video will be picked up by searches. Enter in any tags. Tags are basically keywords, so for example if your video is about fly fishing in the Arctic, you may want to include the tags Fishing, Fly, Arctic.

Step Three: This is the third and final step. MySpace gives you a guideline as to what formats are supported. Simply click browse to find your video, once you have it selected click upload and you’re good to go.

Film

Whether you create your own films or are just curious as to how it works, MySpace Film allows you to browse and search for various films, artists and directors who are involved with film making. You can visit the filmmaker forums and get any details you like involving the making of short films. MySpace also lists Screenings this week as well as the top rated forums and featured filmmakers.

Filmmaker Search

Here you can search for filmmakers who have uploaded their work to MySpace. You can search by area, keyword, and the role they played.

Step One: Select the role of the filmmaker you want to search for. You can choose Any, Director, Producer, Editor, Screenwriter, Animator or Cinematographer.

Step Two: You can choose to search by Name, Influences, Directors, Awards, Festivals or Professional Affiliations.

Step Three: If you would like to enter in a keyword for your search you may do so here. For example, if you would like to bring up results containing wildlife enter the keyword ‘wildlife’ in the space provided

Step Four: Enter in the location for your search. From the pull down menu select the country then choose whether you want to narrow that down further by either selecting all or selecting a specific distance from a zip code.

Step Five: Choose how you want your results sorted. If you select Plays then the results will be sorted in order from most plays to least amount of plays. You can choose to sort the results by friends, whether they are new or in alphabetical order as well.

Step Six: When you are finished selecting your criteria click the Update button and your results will be displayed below.

Top Filmmakers

MySpace has a voting system where you can cast your vote on the films you view. If a film earns enough votes it will be on this list. Here you can search for the Top Filmmakers on MySpace. You can search by Genre and location as well. Once you input your criteria hit Update and MySpace will list the results below. To view a film, simply go to the producer’s profile by either clicking on the title of the film or the user’s profile.

Screenings

Here you can search for screenings that will be showing in your area. You can view the Date and time, Filmmaker, Venue, Location and the cost for each film. To get more specific details, you can select the name of a field and MySpace will pull up all the information on it such as Director, other films by this person, other show times, any ratings etc.

Filmmaker Forums

Here you can reach out and communicate with all the artists that create these short films. Ask questions or just say hello and comment on people’s films. You can either reply to someone else’s topic or start your own topic by clicking the start topic button.

Film Classifieds

Here you will find ads posted by anyone for anything. Generally anything people want to post can be displayed here. You can change the city you are looking in by selecting “Change City”.

Filmmaker Sign-up

If you are a filmmaker you can sign up and connect your film with millions of people instantly. This is a good way to get your film out in the open so others can view your talent. Mail

Mail at MySpace is used to communicate with other members. You cannot send a message to people outside of MySpace. You can send anyone a message by going to their profile and selecting “email” or message. Other features of MySpace mail include:

Saved Mail: This is mail that you have received from another member that you have chosen to save.

Sent Mail: This is mail that you have sent. You can check to see if the person you sent the mail to has read the mail, deleted it or replied.

Trash: This is mail that you have deleted but has not yet been discarded.

Bulletin: A bulletin is a bulk message to everyone in your group. It is set up just like an email but you don’t input any addresses because it is sent out to everyone in the group.

Address Book: You can keep a personal address book of the people you mail most often.

Friend Requests: Whenever a MySpace user views your profile and wants to be your friend, they send you a friend request. These friend requests are kept in this special folder.

Pending Requests: When you view a new friend request you don’t have to accept or deny it right away. If you’d like to wait and grant or deny permission at a later time tht friend request will move over to this folder. At a later time you can come here and either grant or deny the friend request.

Event Invites: These are personal invites you have received to events. If a friend is holding a birthday party and wants you to come they can send you an invite.

Blog

This is where you post information about yourself. It’s an online journal for you and others to view. You can write your daily thoughts here and subscribe to others’ online journals as well.

Blog Home: This is the main page of your blog. Here you have access to all of your blogs, both your own and those you are subscribed to.

My Subscriptions: These are blogs that you came across that you have chosen to subscribe too. When the owner of the blog changes or writes a new blog they will be updated here.

My Readers: These are MySpace users who have subscribed to your blogs. You can choose to remove a reader as well.

My Preferred List: This is a private blog where only members can view. You have to invite users otherwise they are hidden from view.

If you have uploaded a photograph it will be displayed in the space provided. You can also view statistics on your blog as well. Whenever a MySpace user leaves a comment or gives you the thumbs up (Kudos) it will increase the counter.



Post New Blog:
Here you can post a new blog. You can choose to use the basic editor and just input text. If you know a little bit about HTML you can use the advanced editor. Select the Post Date if you want to delay the post of your blog. When you are finished writing what you want, tell your readers what you are reading, listening to or playing. Basically tell them what you’re doing. Tell your readers your current mood. If you don’t want people leaving comments or Kudos just check the box. Choose the privacy, whether you want only friends to view, private etc. When you are finished, click preview and post to preview your blog.

View Blog: Here is a view of your blog as others will see it. If you don’t like the way it looks you can go in and edit it.

Customize Blog: Here you can customize every aspect of your Blog page.

General Page Settings: Here you can adjust the Background color, alignment, Width length, default font, Normal Link color, Visited Link Color, active link color, and how many blogs per page.

Page Header: You can define a custom header here, if you choose, by selecting the header site, font, tag line, border color, interior color. You may also choose to do your header in HTML.



Side Module: The side module is the information that is displayed about you and your blog. You can define where it is positioned, the font color, the font alignment, the border color, and interior color. You can also choose whether or not to display personal information about yourself such as gender, status, age, sign, city, state, country, signup date, subscriptions, and blog groups.

Blog Post Settings: These are the settings actually in your blog message. If you use HTML in your blog, when posting those settings will override the settings you define here. You can set the blog background color, spacer color, Date background color, date format, date alignment, subject font, make the subject boldface, time format, time position, and the text indent.

Comment Settings: Here you can set the colors for your comments by choosing the profile background color, the comment background color, the spacer color.

Background Settings: If you like you can set up the background of your blogs. Forum

This is a place where you can post a message to all. Whether you are looking for friends to chat with or seeking information on a particular subject. Posting on a forum is viewable by all MySpace users at any given time.

Groups is a place where you can join a group of users with the same interests as yourself. Whether you have a birthday party, or a social gathering or you just want everyone to get together and have a good time. You can announce an event here. Or look for other events that users have posted. You can do a search, just enter in your zip code and select the distance and any keywords and MySpace will display any events in your area.

Event Invites: This will bring you to your mail inbox where you receive invites. If a MySpace user invites you to an event they post, it will be displayed in your inbox under invites.

Events I’ve Posted: Here you can see all the events that you have posted. You can choose to view past events or current ones.

Events I’m Attending: When you receive an invite, you can choose to R.S.V.P the person that invited you. This will let them know that you are attending and it will also show that you are attending under this category.

Create New Event: Here you can create an event to be displayed to everyone, your friends, or only the people you choose. Fill out the information, the time, what’s going on, where it’s at, etc. so other users know what it is that is going on. A short description is what will be displayed on the search page giving a brief synopsis of the happenings. A detailed description can be provided when users open up your event to find out detailed information about the event.

Browsing

MySpace has a Browse Users option. Here you can place a search for other users based on their age, location, interests and other general information they provide. You may also perform an Advanced Search where you can get into details about the people you want to search for such as personal information, background and lifestyle. You can choose to sort your search results by last login, New to MySpace, or distance. Let’s go through this step by step.


1. Choose whether you want a basic or advanced search. For now lets do basic.

2. Select whether you are browsing for women, men or both men and women.

3. Select the age range for your search. You can search for people between the ages of 18 and 99.

4. Select whether or not to search for users who are In a Relationship, Single, Swinger, Married, Divorced. You can select more than one of these options.

5. Choose whether they are here for Dating, Networking, Relationships or Friends. Again, you can choose more than one option.

6. Choose where they are located. Enter in a postal code and select the distance for your search.

7. Select whether or not profiles with photos are included, as well as profiles without photos. More than one option can be selected so you can see profiles with pictures and without if you like.

8. You can sort the results of your search to be listed by Recently updated, Last Login, New To MySpace or distance.

9. Once you have entered all the information you would like included in the search, click on ‘update’ and your search results will be displayed below.

The results of your search will then be listed in the area below. They will be sorted depending on the selection you made. You can then click on their username or photo to view his/her profile.

 

Search

You can search for anything you like on MySpace. There is a general search for anything. You can choose to search the site for your terms, search blogs, general interest, music interest, movies interest, books interest or the web. Located to the right you will see a list of the most popular searches. If you think that one of your friends might be on MySpace, you can do a friend search for them. Choose Name, Display Name or email address and type in their information and click search.

Want to find classmates? Not a problem, with MySpace’s classmate finder just type in the school name, country, and state and MySpace will pull up anyone who is affiliated with that school. You may also search for affiliations as well. Just use the pull down to select the field, sub-field and role.

Why keep all the fun to yourself? If you have friends or family out there you can keep in touch with them easily through MySpace. This allows you to send an eCard to any friend or family member you may have, including links and instructions on how to sign up.
